★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 79 reviews · from $155Our pick

Spend about three hours at Mount Gay in St. Lucy, Barbados, learning how rum is made from fermentation through aging. A brand host leads you past the original well, molasses house, distillation area, and aging casks before four signature tastings and shopping time. Rico is one guide praised for making the visit both clear and entertaining. Adults only.

“The tour was informative and entertaining. Rico, our tour guide, is passionate about Mt Gay and it shows in his work. Our transport was also a good experience as our driver took extra time to show us some of the island on the ride home.”

Join Terrvette Tours for a five-and-a-half-hour island circuit with pickup from your hotel, Airbnb, or cruise port. Guide Yvette leads you past Bridgetown, Speightstown, Holetown, Bathsheba, and St. James Parish Church, with time at St. Nicholas Abbey, lunch, and a drink. The Animal Flower Cave stop is for cliff-top views only, not cave entry.

“Our tour operator Yvette from Terrvette Tours was amazing! Wonderful to see the landscape changes from Atlantic versus the Caribbean side. Lots of photo ops & loved seeing the green monkeys! St. Nicholas Abbey was interesting and so was the parish churches in each parish. Lunch was lovely. Perfect way to introduce yourself to this beautiful island.”

Barbados: St Nicholas Abbey Distillery, CTH Heritage Railway

3.Barbados: St Nicholas Abbey Distillery, CTH Heritage Railway

★★★★★★★★★★4.6 · 33 reviews · 4 hours · from $128

Spend four hours at St Nicholas Abbey in Saint Andrew, touring the 17th-century plantation house, small distillery, and grounds before riding the Heritage Railway to Cherry Tree Hill. An English-speaking guide provides commentary, hotel pickup is included, and the tasting features two small rum samples plus a hot cooking rum.

“Interesting opportunity to step back in time and understand the history of part of the island, with both the train ride and Abbey tour. The view from Cherry Tree hill was amazing. Only downside was the so called rum tasting which was sparse to say the least (2 very very small samples) and somewhat disappointing given how much they talked up the award winning rums we could only look at. All the guides through the day were great and shared so much information”
